Evaluating The Ionic Breeze Quadra Air Purifier To Establish If It's Right For You And Your Home
The Sharper Image, pioneers of ionic air purifiers, were the manufacturers of the Ionic Breeze Quadra Air Purifier. It used static electricity instead of an actual filter to filter the air, just like the first Ionic Breeze air purifier. Although the Ionic Breeze Air Purifier is no longer in production, you can still find these at quite a few retail outlets. Following is quick comparison of the Ionic Breeze Quadra Silent Air Purifier with some other options.
Comparing To The Original Ionic Breeze Silent Air Purifier
The first difference between the original and the Ionic Breeze Quadra Air Purifier is that addition of the term "Quadra". One wonders if there's four of something, or if it's four times as powerful, or exactly how the term applies at all to an ionic air purifier. However, there doesn't seem to be any difference in either air flow or effectiveness from the original Ionic Breeze Silent Air Purifier. The manufacturer suggests using this product in medium or large sized rooms. All other features appear to be the same as the original as well.
Compared Against HEPA Air Purifiers
HEPA air purifiers have long been the standard in air purification. The biggest difference between any ionic air purifier and any HEPA air purifier is the filter element. An ionic air purifier attracts solid particles to a bar that must be cleaned off periodically. HEPA air purifiers pass air through a filter that does not allow those same solid air molecules to pass, thereby gathering them in a filter. That filter must then be thrown away and replaced. HEPA air purifiers are much more effective at their job. However, in the long run, they can become extremely expensive. The Ionic Breeze Quadra Air Purifier can be expected to do roughly the same job, only much slower. It also does it without a fan, creating silent operation.
The Ionic Breeze Quadra Air Purifier Is Out Of Production
There have been many accusations against the Ionic Breeze Air Purifier in all its forms, although most ionic air purifier reviews from those who have actually purchased them are quite favorable. The publicity was so bad that, eventually The Sharper Image, their manufacturer, declared bankruptcy in 2008. Although the name persists, having been purchased by another company, there is no indication that any Ionic Breeze air purifiers have been produced since then. This does not bode well for the availability of spare parts, and you can probably consider these products to be sold as-is, with no warranty. The Ionic Breeze Quadra Air Purifier has been sold at various retail outlets since 2003, so there is really no telling how long a "new" one may have been sitting on the shelf.
Alternatives
Besides the obvious HEPA air purifiers, there are other options when it comes to indoor air purification. The new king in ionic air purifiers is Ionic Pro, which makes the Ionic Pro Air Purifier. Their products are generally priced about the same as any remaining Ionic Breeze Air Purifiers out there and, as their company seems to be going strong, support, parts, and replacements for their products shouldn't be hard to find. Unless you find an astoundingly good deal on an Ionic Breeze Quadra Air Purifier, your best bet would probably be to steer clear. For most, the Ionic Pro would be the current best ionic air purifier.
